Meles pays homage to Tilahun Gesesse, dubs him epitome of Ethiopia’s modern music
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the renowned Ethiopian singer, Tilahun Gesesse. An epitome of Ethiopia’s modern music, Tilahun was awarded a national prize for lifetime contributions and named Honorary Doctor by the Addis Ababa University.

In his message of condolence to the family of the artiste, the prime minister expressed admiration and respect for the hugely popular figure, who entertained the nation for half a century.

Tilahun stood out as an artiste of great renown with his lifetime contributions to Ethiopia’s modern music, which he popularized across the world, Prime Minister Meles said.

The late Tilahun has taken preeminence in the development of Ethiopian music, Meles said. The artiste had taken up his musical career at the age of 13 at a time when Ethiopian music entered the era of transformation.

The prime minister said the late Tilahun Gesesse wished well, did superbly to his beloved nation, contributed to the growth and development of the country and set the example for those compatriots in the music industry.

Meles wished solace to the bereaved family, relatives, friends and the people of Ethiopia who always keep Tilahun’s voluminous music records dearly at heart. (ENA)
