Ethiopian maid gets death in sponsor kill-Arab Times
KUWAIT CITY : The Criminal Court on Monday sentenced an Ethiopian housemaid, identified only as Amakeel, to death for the premeditated murder of her sponsor — a Lebanese woman — in mid-2008.
The court ordered transfer of the case file to the Court of Appeals within 30 days after the issuance of the verdict, as well as referral of the civil case to the concerned court to hear it.
According to the victim’s brother, he had an appointment with his sister on June 18, 2008 to prepare for her trip to Syria for treatment. He called her home phone, but she did not respond. He tried calling her mobile phone, but again, he received no answer. He got suspicious as he expected his sister to be ready at that moment to go with him. He hurried to her home and knocked at the door, but nobody opened it, so he used a reserve key and found his sister in a pool of blood. He asked the housemaid who killed his sister and the latter admitted the crime. He locked the door and reported the incident to authorities.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was nowhere in sight, so they searched the whole flat and saw her trying to jump from the balcony. They stopped her from committing suicide and arrested her.
The session was presided over by Judge Abdurrahman Al-Darmi. (Arab times)
